The Jury's Opinion:
Danish Saroee composes the theme "sports" in a wonderful fashion by perfectly exploiting the possiblities of Roundshot panoramic photography. The blurred background gives additional racing speed to the horse carts which are pictured in perfect sharpness.
"It has always been my ambition to take pictures that nobody else has taken before, because there is no reason to take the same picture again and again. I love my Roundshot Super 220 because it has given me so many photo ideas and capabilities which none of my other cameras have provided. As the horses get scared if someone comes too close to them - which is very dangerous - I had to get a special permission to get close to the racing rink. I used my 105mm Nikon lens to go back enough to fill the frame. At the same time, I had to calculate the exposure time, the depth of field and the length of all the horses that were in the race. Unfortunately the game started a little bit late and I missed the sun, so it became harder for me to decide which exposure time to choose. Equally, I had no idea of the speed at which the horses were running, so I had to guess quite a bit, which absorbed a lot of film.
I have to admit something crazy I did. When the horses passed by me the ground was shaking (they were around 600kg each) and suddenly I thought that If I'd hold my tripod hard enough it would stop from shaking. However, I didn?t understand that the whole ground was shaking and my attempt was just wasting time."
